The International Journal of Sub-Saharan African Research (IJSSAR) is a multidisciplinary open-access journal from the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Nigeria. Kenneth Adibe Nwafor, Ph.D., a Professor in the department, founded the journal in 2023. It publishes original and high-quality peer-reviewed research that seeks to advance the frontiers of knowledge, inform policy, and contribute to sustainable solutions to developmental challenges across Africa, with particular attention to the sub-Saharan region.

Aims and Scope

IJSSAR is a journal of the people of sub-Saharan Africa, by the people of sub-Saharan Africa, and for the people of sub-Saharan Africa. It aims to advance scholarly excellence by serving as a leading forum for African scholarship, with a particular focus on amplifying sub-Saharan African voices, perspectives, and experiences through the publication of rigorous, innovative, and impactful research that contributes to both African and regional development while enriching global academic discourse. CURRENT ISSUE

IJSSAR Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2026
This issue features 45 articles, representing a 40% reduction from the previous 75. This reduction does not reflect declining authors’ patronage or a shortage of quality submissions; rather, it forms part of IJSSAR’s ongoing Strategic Editorial Reforms Ahead of Application for Scopus Assessment. Of the 109 manuscripts considered, only 41% were accepted, reflecting the journal’s commitment to greater selectivity and rigorous quality assurance. The deliberate reduction in publication volume is aimed at strengthening quality over quantity and enabling the Editorial Board to devote greater attention to editorial scrutiny, peer-review management, quality control, technical editing, article presentation, metadata accuracy, digital discoverability, and post-publication management.
