Influence of Radio Programmes in Promoting Malaria Prevention in Mgbowo Community of Enugu State Nigeria

Abstract:
Background: Malaria remains a significant public health concern in Nigeria, with high transmission rates and associated morbidity and mortality. Radio is a widely accessible and effective communication medium that can be utilised to disseminate information and educate communities about malaria prevention strategies.
Objective: To investigate the influence of radio programmes in promoting malaria prevention in Mgbowo community of Enugu State, Nigeria.
Methods: The study adopted a descriptive research design. Using a simple random sample technique, a total of 384 respondents of ages 21-41 years in Mgbowo rural community of Enugu State participated. Generated data were analysed using simple percentages and presented in tables. Results: Findings show significant level of exposure to radio programmes on malaria prevention. There was also high level of knowledge of malaria preventive measures among respondents, yet malaria remain prevalent in the area.
Conclusion: A more holistic health communication approach that could translate head-knowledge to behaviour change towards malaria prevention is required among rural dwellers in Mgbowo community of Enugu state.
