Advocacy for Inclusive Education for Sustainable Development in Nigeria

Abstract:
Background: Nigeria’s quest for sustainable development is inextricably liken to its ability to provide inclusive education to its diverse population. Despite progress made over the years, millions of Nigerians remain excluded from quality education due to disability, gender, geography, and socio-economic status. In 2015, Heads of State and government met in Paris to set the world on a path towards sustainable development through the adoption of the 2030 agenda for (SDG goals) on inclusive quality education and lifelong learning for all. This can only be achieved by making education accessible for every citizen regardless of gender, tribe, background, socio-economic status and otherwise.
Objective: This study focused on advocacy for inclusive education for attainment of sustainable development in Nigeria.
Method: The study adopted a structured methodology for an opinion paper which ensured that opinions were presented clearly and persuasively following these steps: introduction, conceptual clarification, conclusion, recommendation, references.
Result: The study uncovered the implementation of the recommendations of inclusive education as proffered by this paper, Nigeria can tap into the creative potential, skills, and talents of all citizens, fostering a more equitable, just, and prosperous society. It is therefore sustained that policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to prioritize inclusive education towards addressing systemic barriers and embracing innovative solutions to ensure that every Nigerian have access to quality education, regardless of their background or ability.
Conclusion:The study concludes that inclusive education is crucial to Nigeria’s sustainable development. It should therefore, begin to receive the attention and awareness it deserves. This is one of the ways to end the problems of unemployment, poverty, hunger, dependable lifestyles, and a faltering economy.
Unique Contribution: This study has offered unique insight on the advocacy of inclusive education towards the attainment of sustainable development goals (SDG) in Nigeria.
Key Recommendation: This study recommends that: modified curriculum, barrier-free learning environment, adequately trained personnel and adequate funding should be made available by government to achieve this laudable goal.
